Chronic pain, emotional and physical, is debilitating. When everything hurts, it’s hard to think clearly, brain fog rolls in, and activities of daily life become challenging. The use of stamps and maps in this piece are far in the background, unreachable and in the past. The body is purposefully disjointed, and the lack of clarity regarding where the head actually resides is also deliberate. The title is cut magazine letters, implying how one often feels like a hostage to their pain.
